Experimental characterization of adobe vaults strengthened with a TRM-based compatible composite

This paper deals with the structural behaviour and strengthening of adobe vaults representative from historical buildings city Yazd, Iran. Eight destructive tests were performed on 1:3 scaled vault models by loading them at 30% span in loading–unloading cycles increasing vertical displacement. The tested considering both unstrengthened strengthened conditions, where consisted an externally bonded low-cost textile reinforced mortar (LC-TRM) composed a fiber-glass mesh embedded earth-based mortar. Three different strategies evaluated, namely testing undamaged extrados, intrados repaired intrados. experimental results show that adopted LC-TRM composite improves behavior vaults, substantially their load-bearing capacity changing failure mechanism to more ductile ones.
